Social Media and You
With social media being such an important part of our lives it seems EVERYONE is wanting to get in on marketing and promoting. But it takes a lot of time and effort. It is not just sharing the same lengthy post to every group/page you can think of. You need to curate content (including images) for each platform and it needs to engage people. You can have 50k followers but if your posts are only reaching 5 people are you really doing very well? Recently I have made a page just for my business on some social media platforms. I had enough customers to not really need to branch out, but really needed to brand myself more and thought this would help a lot more than just a website AND IT HAS. Along with the business pages and music pages I manage I can see how much social media can help and how different it is for bands, services and product based pages. There are some no-nos and some tips I have learned when it comes to promoting events and products. Do it from their page, not your own. If Broad Street Bar is hosting an event- promote it from Broad St Bar's page. Also create an event so that if people search events in your area, it will pull in. Curate content for your page and make it platform specific and responsive. Use hashtags- correctly. If you are using multiple platforms, keep a social media calendar or use a service like HootSuite. Make sure to plan, not only will it take some stress off you, but it will be more thought out and you can schedule it for when it will reach more of your audience. If you are on Instagram, keep a variety in the 9-12 top photos, try to spread out quotes or photos with the same color palettes. Also, make sure you take advantage of the insights the platforms offer so you can track what works and what doesn't. Times, days and even types of posts can affect your reach, so make sure you test.
I know it is a lot of work, but with planning, it can be a lot of fun also and very rewarding. Just make sure to keep it professional
